the mind of an athlete
the life of a student athlete is often romanticized, as the spotlight shines on their athletic abilities. we often forget what goes on in their lives after the crowd has gone home, the popcorn stops popping, and the lights have turned off. the mental health of student athletes needs more attention that what it is getting. my goal of this project was to highlight the harsh realities these individuals face, and show that what is presented on the outside is not always what is going on in the inside.

The role of social media in our society, as well as the competitive drive individuals have over each other, encourages people to condemn athletes when they don’t meet the standards the world has set for them. Some confident individuals even say things to their faces, or behind their backs hoping they’ll never find out. It is in these moments that not only athletes, but every individual can find power in doubt. A door opens for you to take the world by storm and prove your abilities. My goal with this series was to help viewers understand that athletes endure various mental hurdles that are not always seen by others. Athletes are no different from anyone else; regardless of race, gender, size or height, we all have hesitations that run through our minds. However, what sets us apart is how we choose to deal with them and respond to the negativity around us. I hope that after viewing my project you choose to be positive. I hope you choose to silence the crowd. And most importantly, I hope you choose to be proud and confident in your abilities.
